If you’re dealing with a blocked shower drain, don’t worry – there are a few DIY fixes you can try before calling in the professionals. And if those don’t work, don’t fret – just give us a call and we’ll take care of everything for you!

The first DIY fix to try is boiling water. It may seem simple, but it’s often more than enough to clear up whatever is causing the blockage. Just fill up a saucepan or stockpot with plenty of hot water and pour it down the drain slowly, allowing it to work its way through without pooling up and cooling down. This can dissolve soap scum, hair, and other debris that can clog your shower drain.

Another DIY fix to try is a homemade volcano. Mixing baking soda and vinegar creates a chemical reaction that can help break up clogs. Simply mix a third of a cup of baking soda with a third of a cup of vinegar in a bowl, adding the vinegar to the baking soda (not the other way around). As soon as it starts to fizz, pour the mixture down the drain. This can clear more stubborn clogs.

If these two solutions don’t work, you may need to use a coat hanger to dig out the obstruction. Straighten out a coat hanger and use it to fish down your pipe, hoping it’s enough to clear the blockage. If that doesn’t work, give us a call and we’ll send someone out to fix the problem without breaking your bank or your plumbing.
